What We Do

The Kentucky State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (KSDAR) is a service-directed organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing a better future for our children through education.

While our national organization sets the programs and vision, the real impact happens right here in Kentucky. KSDAR provides a robust support system that empowers our local chapters, officers, and members to carry out vital projects that shape our communities and honor our heritage.

Our volunteer work is built upon three main areas of focus. Through these pillars, Kentucky Daughters engage in a wide variety of meaningful activities:

Our Core Pillars of Service

Patriotism

We actively support those who have served and continue to serve our nation.

  • Honor Flights: Standing on the front lines to welcome and greet Veterans returning from their honor journeys.

  • Veteran Support: Providing essential Christmas gifts to local Veterans in need.

  • Wreaths Across America: Participating in the annual mission to place remembrance wreaths at the eight National Cemeteries located right here in Kentucky.

Education

We believe in empowering the next generation and supporting our communities through learning.

  • DAR Schools & Scholarships: Providing direct financial aid and ongoing support to our five DAR-affiliated schools.

  • Community Literacy: Offering historic educational programs and active literacy support for children and adults.

Historical Preservation

We honor the legacy of our ancestors by keeping their history alive.

  • Patriot Commemorations: Marking the graves of Revolutionary War Patriots and historically significant structures with plaques and markers.

  • Community Recognition: Honoring local individuals, businesses, and organizations that work tirelessly to protect our shared cultural heritage.

Grounded in Camaraderie

The projects and events that bring Kentucky Daughters together are endless. Beyond national initiatives, every local chapter creates its own projects tailored to the unique needs of its community.

When crisis strikes, we answer the call together. The bigger the goal, the greater our commitment:

  • Flood Relief & Restoration: Following the devastating summer floods of 2022 in Eastern Kentucky, KSDAR

chapters led hands-on clean-up and restoration efforts at the historic Hindman Settlement School.

  • Pandemic Support: During the COVID-19 pandemic, chapters across the state united to sew and distribute thousands of protective masks for healthcare providers, first responders, teachers, and local businesses.

Triennial Leadership

KSDAR leadership transitions every three years with a new State Regent, Officers, and District Directors. Each administration establishes a dedicated State Project that unites every chapter under a singular, impactful goal. Past historic projects have funded major restorations at our state headquarters, established the Kentucky Gift of Reading Endowment, and sponsored the Kentucky Porch at Hindman Settlement School.

Gathering in Friendship & Serious Fun

Kentucky Daughters are invited to connect, collaborate, and celebrate throughout the year across the Commonwealth:

  • State Conference (March): Hundreds of Daughters gather in Lexington for a three-day event to share their talents, energy, and passion for service.

  • Fall Board of Management & Workshops: Hosted in Frankfort, these seasonal events offer opportunities to coordinate statewide projects and learn first-hand what activities are underway.

  • Duncan Tavern Celebrations: Our spring and fall gatherings at our state headquarters are always festive occasions filled with friendship, fun, and historic pride.

Whatever your interests, available time, or unique talents, you will find a place of meaningful service, lasting friendships, and serious fun in KSDAR!
