CHAPTER ORGANIZED MAY 17, 1947
On May 17, 1947, in Barbourville, a chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was organized with twelve members. In two years' time, the chapter grew to a membership of thirty-six. Its organizing regent, Mrs. Hattie Decker Edwards, selected for its name, in commemoration of Walker's journey, "Dr. Thomas Walker." Most of the original members of the chapter descended from the first pioneers of Walker's expedition to Kentucky in 1750 that established the first settlement west of Allegheny Mountains below Barbourville.
