The Indian Mound Chapter was organized in March 1947, with 11 of the charter members who were descendants of Jeremiah Patrick, a Revolutionary War patriot who took the oath of allegiance to Virginia on September 6, 1777. Unfortunately, suspicion came upon the family in 1779, as Jeremiah Patrick was brought before the Montgomery County, Virginia Court on August 5th and charged with being an enemy of this country and acting under a commission from the King of Great Britain. The Court ordered everything taken from Jeremiah Patrick while prisoner of Captain Stephens, or since his confinement, restored to him as he was acquitted of the alleged charge.

After his wife's death in 1813, Patrick left Virginia to live with his grandson, Reuben Patrick, on the Middle Fork Creek of Licking River in Floyd County, now Magoffin County, Kentucky. He died near Hendricks, Kentucky in 1822.
