CHAPTER ORGANIZED APRIL 8, 1941
The chapter was organized with fourteen charter members under the guidance of Organizing Regent Mrs. B.P. Wootton. The chapter takes its name from the town of Hazard named for Oliver Hazard Perry, hero of the Battle of Lake Erie, in which a number of volunteers from Kentucky served in the battle. This battle was fought on September 10, 1813, and was a pivotal navel engagement between British and American forces during the War of 1812. Master Commander Oliver Hazard Perry's opponent, Commander Robert Heriot Barclay, was handed a sound defeat in the exchange of fire.
