HOW CHAPTER WAS NAMED
Caldwell County, established in 1809 and home of the General John Caldwell Chapter NSDAR, is named for Revolutionary War General John Caldwell. General Caldwell was born in Virginia and came to Kentucky in 1781. He was a Major General in the militia and campaigned against the Indians with George Roger Clark in 1786.
Following his military service, he was a member of the Danville Conventions in 1787 and 1788 which adopted a petition "demanding admission to the Union." Caldwell was one of the state's first senators serving 1792-1796. He was later elected Lieutenant Governor, serving with Governor Greenup, September 4, 1804 until his death on November 19, 1804.
