CHAPTER ORGANIZED 1949

The Captain Wendell Oury Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, was confirmed by the Board of the National Society in April, 1949, with a membership of fourteen.

The chapter was given the name of a patriot of Pennsylvania, who, after the Revolution, brought his family to Virginia. His wife was Katrina Peterpenner and they had eight children. One son came to Tennessee. He had been a drummer boy in the Revoution, and his grandson came to Murray, Kentucky. Two of Wendell Oury's sons went to Texas and on to Arizona around 1865. The other children went into various states.

Calloway County, a part of the Jackson's Purchase, was not visited by white men until 1818; therefore, the women of this chapter are descendants of Revolutionary soldiers from many states.

In 1840, there were nine Revolutionary soldiers living in Calloway County – Joseph Dunn, Nathan Frizel, Chaz. Galloway, Nicholas Henson, Kimbrough Ogiville, Rolland Stone, Peter Waterfield, William Wilkins, and Taypley Bynum.
